Inching Forward

Forward progress is still progress. We don’t need to be embarrassed or compare ourselves to others in terms of where we are and where we would like to be. Success is as much about luck as it is about planning. Growth is as much about persistence as it is about being fortunate. Inching forward is still progress.

For myself, at the start of this particular journey, it’s hard to see how I am going to end up where I want to be. I can’t even see some of the others, off in the distance. But I know that I have to keep my eyes on my own work as well as my path forward. If I keep looking at where other people are I will never see my own way to get there.

Everyone’s journey is going to be different. A confluence of geographical location, social connections, aptitudes, and attitudes. I don’t believe in the ‘one-way’ for all. Most of the time, when someone says they have the means to achieve sure-fire success, they mean that they have figured out how to sell their story of success to you.

They use words like ‘process’ and ‘momentum‘ to sell us a method that’s guaranteed to make us wealthy. We pay for the privilege and make them wealthy instead. And, honestly, depending on the person, there can be value in those presentations. But always keep an eye and an ear on your own work, your own progress.

Explosive growth isn’t effective growth. We wouldn’t be able to keep up with it in any case. Inching forward gives us the time to incorporate new ideas, adapt, and evolve.
