How do you get started, working as a copywriter? This is one of the biggest questions struggle with. Most days I feel good about getting started in this career. Other days I wonder why I haven’t been able to go further. Just remember, your path forward is defined by your goals, not a predetermined plan.
If you want to write every day, then getting work as a copywriter is not particularly difficult. There are hundreds of websites and companies that offer freelance work. If you plan your time properly, you can bounce back and forth between them. You don’t have a lot of control when it comes to pay, but you will certainly be working.
If the challenge is more your passion, then you are going to have to look for a company job. Working for a company will get you the experience you need as well as provide you with a framework for your growth. Hopefully, that means working with people who have a similar passion and vision. You won’t have as much control over your day to day, but you won’t have to worry about your next client either.
If you want it all, then you are going to have to run your own business. That means getting out into your communities, locally and online. Your focus has to be making connections with people and selling yourself as a solution to a problem they may not even have thought of yet. You will need an informative website and a strong social media presence. People won’t be able to find you if they don’t even know to look for you.
Just remember your goals and working as a copywriter can provide you with the freedom to live the way you want to.
